Last Wednesday night, the SK Modifieds made their SARA return for their first Triple Crown event as a part of the Callaway Investments Sportsman Series. While the Street Stocks were off for the week, the SK Mods ran a 100-lap feature event at Lanier.
Race Summary – After a pair of Heat Races and the Pole Shuffle, Russell Berry would lead the field to the green flag but it was Ty Spearman that got the early jump and came around to lead lap 1. A caution on lap 2 set up a green flag run to the finish. Ty Spearman jumped out in front to start off the long run, with teammate Joe Schaffer Jr. hanging back by just a couple car lengths. As the two approached lapped traffic and as the tires began to wear out, Schaffer would make his move to the inside of Spearman to take the lead on lap 72, and would pull away in the final laps to pick up the victory.
Triple Crown Standings – Schaffer Jr. leads the Triple Crown standings after the first event, and will look to keep the lead in a couple weeks with the SK Modified return.
Up Next – The Street Stocks will be back in action this week for their 4th race of the season, with a 100-lap race at Myrtle Beach.
