On Tuesday night, the Callaway Investments/Midwest Powersource Sportsman Series finished off their 2017 Fall Season with a 100-lap season finale for the Late Model Sportsman division at Lanier.
Race Winner – Joe Schaffer Jr. stole the lead away from Ian Layne after a mistake with 13 laps to go, and Schaffer would pick up his 37th career victory.
Race Summary – Ian Layne started at the front of the field after the Pole Handicap and got off to a strong start as he pulled way out front. The battle for most of the night was for the 2nd spot, before Joe Schaffer Jr. eventually won that fight and then set his sights on Layne. As the laps began to wind down, Ian Layne made one small mistake, which was enough to open the door for Schaffer to get by as he went on to pick up the victory.
Hard Charger – Matt Eddy gained 3 spots on the night moving up from 11th to finish 8th
LM Title Fight – With the victory, Schaffer was able to lock up the Late Model Sportsman title, with a season that consisted of 2 wins, 4 top fives, 5 top tens, and 154 laps led.
Combined Title Fight – Schaffer also wrapped up the overall combined points championship for the Sportsman Series, which makes it a clean sweep for the season picking up all three series titles. Congrats to Joe Schaffer Jr., the 2017 Fall Season Callaway Investments/Midwest Powersource Sportsman Series champion. Schaffer’s overall season consisted of 3 wins, 8 top fives, and 10 top tens.
