Schaffer Edges Out Bills For Iowa Victory

The Callaway Investments Sportsman Series kicked off it’s 15th season last night with a 78-lap feature and the 7/8-mile Iowa Speedway. Tim Bills started off the night by setting a new track record to grab the pole, but saw a 6-car invert out front for the race. Travis Warling and Joe Schaffer led early before Bills made his way to the front of the field, but Bills would have his hands full throughout the second half of the race as an intense battle broke out up front amongst the lead pack. Restarts and cautions were key, and Schaffer was able to get to the inside of Bills and nosed ahead into the lead just as the final caution flew on lap 74, which scored Schaffer as the leader and he would bring the field back around under caution to take the win. The win was his 21st career SARA victory.

Pole Award – Tim Bills – New Track Record 26.914 seconds
Hard Charger – 20th to 5th (+15) – Conner Blaise
Rookie of the Race – 10th Place – Jake Watson
