Callaway Investments Sportsman Series – Street Stocks – Race 9 – August 14, 2018 – Lanier National Speedway
Last night the Street Stocks finished their 2018 Summer Season with a 125-lap feature event at Lanier, where Joe Schaffer Jr. was looking to lock up his 4th Sportsman championship.
Race Summary – Early in the race, Tim Bills took the lead away from Russell Charneski on the outside, but that move also opened up the door for Ty Majeski who was making a spot start to move up into 2nd. For most of the night, Majeski hung within a couple car lengths of Bills, and looked to be saving his stuff. But as the race went on, Bills made sure not to give him any chances at making a move, and Bills would go on to lead 111 laps and held off Majeski for the win, making it back-to-back victories to end the season.
Race Winner – Tim Bills – Qualified 3rd, started 5th (invert), 111 laps led, 29th career win
Top Five – 2nd Ty Majeski, 3rd Joe Schaffer Jr., 4th Russell Charneski, 5th Donald Clark
Hard Charger – Matt Rolfe (+3 Positions – 9th to 6th)
Top Rookie – TJ White (7th) won the Rookie of the Season for the Street Stocks
Pole Winner – Ty Majeski (14.635 seconds)
Points Battle – Entering the night, Joe Schaffer Jr. just needed to finish 16th or better to clinch the title, and he would do that and more by finishing 3rd on the night to wrap up his third straight Sportsman Series title, and fourth overall. Joe’s season consisted of 8 starts, 7 top fives, 7 top tens, 4 wins, and 155 laps led.
