Callaway Investments Sportsman Series – Street Stocks – Race 8 – August 7, 2018 – Southern National Motorsports Park
This past week, the Street Stocks ran their penultimate race of the season with a 100-lap feature.
Race Summary – Bill Martin dominated the first 75 laps of the race, but it was a different story during the final 25. Tim Bills charged up to the front and began to battle for the top spot. A restart with 13 laps to go allowed Bills to gain some ground and was able to get under Martin for the lead. The two battled for the final 10 laps side-by-side with neither driver gaining an advantage until the final lap where Bills pulled ahead out of turn four and picked up his first win of the season by just .198 seconds over Martin.
Race Winner – Tim Bills – Qualified 1st, started 8th (invert), 3 laps led, 28th career win
Top Five – 2nd Bill Martin, 3rd Joe Schaffer Jr., 4th Matt Rolfe, 5th Russell Charneski
Hard Charger – Mark Welch (+6 Positions – 15th to 9th)
Top Rookie – TJ White (7th)
Pole Winner – Tim Bills (15.508 seconds)
Points Battle – Another top three finish puts Joe Schaffer Jr. solidly in the top spot in points, but without a drop race to fall back on, the title is yet to be locked up. However, Schaffer will need to finish just 16th or better to secure the championship.
Up Next – This upcoming Tuesday night, the Street Stocks will wrap up their season with 125 laps at Lanier.
