This past Wednesday night, the HidesPride.com Southern Series wrapped up their 2017 Spring mini-season with a pair of 100-lap features in the K&N car. Trevor Edwards entered the night with a commanding points lead and looked to finish off the season on a high note.
Tim Bills picked up the pole for race one, but a spin on lap 2 handed the lead over to Joe Schaffer Jr. Schaffer led a majority of the race but his tires would give up late and it was Richie Davidowitz who made a late charge to pick up his first career SARA victory. In race 2, a 6-car invert brought Bills back to the front once again, where this time he and Trevor Edwards battled for the the lead for most of the race. Action heated up late though when Jordan Erickson attempted to go around Edwards for the lead but the two would tangle. Late in the race, Josh Berry grabbed the lead with less than 10 to go, but when race officials deemed Berry to made some aggressive contact while passing for the lead, the win was handed over to Tim Bills in post-race.
As the Southern Series wrapped up, the night ultimately belonged to Trevor Edwards after a strong season, earning him the championship. Edwards’ season consisted of 12 starts, 2 wins, 11 top fives, 12 top tens, and 175 laps led. The title for Edwards was his 4th career SARA championship.
