This past Thursday night, a new season kicked off for the newly named TUNDRA Super Sim Series as they took on the USA International Speedway for 125 laps in The Car Show Show 125. A total of 39 cars would attempt to qualify for the event, with 30 cars taking the starting grid.

Race Winner – Joe Schaffer Jr. used a strong restart on lap 40 to get to the inside of Ty Spearman for the lead, and went on to pick up his 33rd career SARA win.

Race Summary – Brian Helm and Tim Bills led the field to the green after the 7-car invert but contact up front parted the seas for Ty Spearman to take over the lead on lap 1. While Spearman led, a couple cautions early on was allowing Joe Schaffer Jr. to work his way forward and up into the 2nd spot. On a lap 40 restart, Spearman got the jump but didn’t get up to speed, allowing Schaffer to make a move to the inside, and after battling for a few laps, Schaffer got the advantage and never looked back. Schaffer led the final 84 laps of the race, picking up the season-opening victory.

Pole Award – Colin Allman scored his 3rd career SARA pole with a lap of 19.717 seconds.

Hard Charger – Samuel Roush needed to rely on a points provisional to make the race, and took full advantage by gaining 22 spots to pick up a top five finish.

Rookie of the Race – Dalton Collins ran in the back half of the top ten for most of the night and moved up to finish 6th.

Title Fight – Joe Schaffer Jr.’s first win since April in the Super Sim Series puts him atop the standings early in the season.

Up Next – The TUNDRA Super Sim Series will head north to Stafford for the Lokotoco Designs 125 in Week 2.
