Last night the Sportsman Street Stock Series rolled into the Langley Speedway for their 75-lap race, as 21 brought out their cars out for the Week 8 feature event. Justin Brooks took the quick time in qualifying, just .044 seconds ahead of Bill Martin, to take his 4th street stock pole of the season.
Brooks led the field to the green flag and quickly jumped into the lead. The top 5 of Brooks, Martin, Kevin Myers, Adam Jordan, and James Poleske all fell in line at the front of the field. But the first of many cautions would come just 7 laps in as a slow car would come to a rest at the top of turns 3 and 4. The first restart of the race, would set up a lot action on the restarts, but that would lead to cars getting together and the field would have a had time putting any large runs together throughout the race.
Each restart, Brooks would get the jump into the lead, but he would have plenty of cars itching to take the spot behind him. Bill Martin pressured him for a number of laps before getting shuffled on a restart. This lead to Poleske starting beside Brooks, but again, he couldn’t do anything with him as Brooks was just too strong on the restarts. The outside groove was not the place to be on the night as cars would get shuffled back, leading to plenty of changes within the top 5 throughout the race.
The last restart of the race came out with just 5 laps to go, as this time it was Cody Thompson challenging for the lead. But Brooks once again pulled out front and led the field to the checkered flag, leading all 75 laps en route to his 3rd Street Stock victory of the season. Thompson was able to get in line behind him for the 2nd spot, while Martin settled in for a 3rd place finish. Poleske would make a late charge from an earlier spin to finish 4th, while Brian Tedeschi rounded out the top 5. Matt Rolfe would finish 7th, and hangs on to the points lead by just 8 points over Tedeschi.
