Davis Chassis Works Contender Series – Super Late Models – Round 10 – April 24, 2019 – Five Flags Speedway
Over 50 Super Late Models unloaded at 5Flags last Wednesday night for the penultimate round of the Contender Series, with the field being split into two separate 150 lap events.
Race 1 Summary – Riley Stenjem won the overall pole award and led Race 1 throughout the first half of the race pretty easily. However as the race approached the lap 100 mark, while Stenjem was navigating lapped traffic, a slight checkup resulted with Stenjem facing the wrong direction. After the caution, Magnum Tate inherited the lead with Daniel Silvestri joining him to battle for the lead. Tate held on up until the lap 135 restart, where Silvestri peeked to his inside, forcing the leader to make a mistake by getting into the outside wall, allowing Silvestri to complete the pass and he would go on to lead the final 15 laps for his second win of the season.
Race 2 Summary – In Race 2, James Mihlbachler took over the race lead in early laps, and was able to maintain the position throughout a number of early cautions. Shortly after lap 100, Mihlbachler had some company from Gareth Gonder up front, but the two would make contact while battling, which ultimately ended up with both cars at the rear of the field. This handed the lead over to Chris Canfield with Kyle Souza also moving up for a shot at the lead. After the lap 128 restart, Souza was able to gain some momentum and made his move under Canfield on the exit of turn two with just 17 laps to go. Souza then held off the field on a late race restart, and went to pick up his first win of the season.
Hard Chargers – Jayden Dahlberg (Race 1, +12 pos.), Stan Bragg Jr. (Race 2, +19 pos.)
Pole Winner – Riley Stenjem (15.059 seconds)
Points Battle – Riley Stenjem maintains his point lead with the help of drop races, despite his trouble during his race. He leads the standings by 30 points over Fred Moreau heading into the final race of the season.
