On Tuesday night, the Callaway Investments/Midwest Powersource Sportsman Series returned to action with the Late Model Sportsman taking on Myrtle Beach for 75 laps of action.
Race Winner – Kyle Souza capitalized on a mistake by Ty Spearman with about 20 to go, to pick up his first career SARA victory.
Race Summary – Joe Schaffer Jr. started up front and led early throughout a couple of cautions in the opening laps. Once the race went green on lap 37, Ty Spearman began putting the pressure on for the top spot and worked his way into the lead on lap 42. From there, Spearman looked to have things in control while trying to hold off Kyle Souza, but when Spearman clipped the inside curbing in turn two and got loose, Souza was there to take advantage by swinging to the outside to take over the lead and never looked back.
Pole Winner – Joe Schaffer Jr. set the fast time with a lap of 18.780 seconds.
Hard Charger – Both Matt Eddy and Jeremy Watkins gained 5 spots on the night, to pick up a top five and top ten finish, respectively.
LM Title Fight – With a 3rd place finish, Joe Schaffer Jr. jumps up to the top of the Late Model standings, but only leads Ty Spearman by 1 point, and Trevor Edwards by 4 points, with one LM race remaining.
Combined Title Fight – Schaffer also leads the overall points standings, with a solid 27 point lead heading into the final weeks.
Up Next – The Sportsman Street Stocks will return next week with their final race of the season in a 75-lap race at Lanier.
