Schaffer Recovers For New Smyrna Victory

Callaway Investments Sportsman Series – Street Stocks – Race 6 – July 10, 2018 – New Smyrna Speedway

The Street Stocks took on the New Smyrna Speedway for race number six of the season with a 75-lap feature and the Florida half-mile.

Race Summary – Ty Spearman was able to get the jump into the lead off the initial green flag as a lap 1 caution that involved points leader Joe Schaffer Jr. As the race continued, Schaffer began charging his way up through the field and was able to start putting the pressure on Spearman for the lead after a lap 34 restart. Just a couple laps later, Schaffer made his move to the inside, and then pulled away and dominated the second half of the race for the win.

Race Winner – Joe Schaffer Jr. – Qualified 2nd, started 6th (invert), 38 laps led

Top Five – 2nd Spearman, 3rd Tim Bills, 4th Conner Blaise, 5th Matt Rolfe

Hard Charger – Matt Rolfe (+3 Positions – 8th to 5th)

Top Rookie – N/A

Pole Winner – Tim Bills (19.642 seconds – new track record)

Points Battle – Another win for Schaffer keeps him atop the standings, even after the drop race has been official taken out of the standings, and he leads by a comfy 51 points heading into the final three races.

Up Next – After the off-week, the Street Stocks will make some right-hand turns next week at Watkins Glen.
