Bodio Recovers For Win In Volusia Attrition Battle

The Callaway Investments Sportsman Series ran it’s second and final dirt race of the season on Monday night in a 75-lap feature at Volusia Speedway Park.

Race Winner – After Jeremy Adams and Derek Robinson made some slight contact while battling for the lead on lap 16, both drivers would end up at the back of the pack, handing the lead over to points leader Tim Bills. Bills controlled the race and looked to have another win in the books but as the laps ticked off, Dave Bodio was making a charge after he was near the back of the pack from some early incidents. Bills rode the low line while Bodio swung his car around the outside and Bodio would gain the advantage on lap 64. Bodio would hold off the field on one last restart with two to go, and held on for his his first Sportsman win, and his 5th career SARA victory.

Heat Winners – Heat Races were used to set the field for the dirt event, and John Lyday was able to take the victory Heat Race #1, while Jeremy Adams charged from 5th to win Heat Race #2.

Hard Charger – After an incident in his Heat Race, Joe Schaffer Jr. had to start deep in the field and worked his way forward all night for a 2nd place finish, gaining 16 positions.

Rookie of the Race – Andrew Mulder made his first career league start and avoided most of the incidents all night which led him to a top five finish in 5th.

Title Fight – Tim Bills held on to finish 3rd on the night which was enough to hold onto the points lead by 22 points over Joe Schaffer Jr. with just two races left on the schedule.

Up Next – Next week the Sportsman Series will take on the Five Flags Speedway for the 10th race of the season with a 100-lap feature event.
