Last night the Callaway Investments Sportsman Series visited the South Boston Speedway for 100 laps, and the slick track provided plenty of side-by-side battles all night.
Race Winner – Ian Layne led the opening 45 laps after receiving the invert, before Jeremy Adams used the outside groove on a restart to get by. In the final 15 laps, Adams faced pressure from Tim Bills who made a few attempts in the inside groove, but Adams would hold him off on the outside for the victory, and his 2nd career SARA win.
Pole Award – Matt Rolfe earned his 51st career SARA pole with a lap of 16.638 seconds.
Hard Charger – Dale Owen and newcomer Kyle Souza started 12th and 13th and each battled just outside the top five all night before finishing in 6th and 7th respectively, gaining 6 positions each.
Biggest Loser – After starting up front after the invert and leading laps early, Ian Layne would get loose while battling for second and lost a number of spots, but was never able to recover, finishing in 13th.
Rookie of the Race – In his first SARA race, Kyle Souza moved up to battle with the top five pack for much of the night and ended up just outside in 6th.
Title Fight – Tim Bills followed up his Week 1 with with a runner-up finish and holds a 10-point lead into next week’s off-week. The series will resume in two weeks at Oxford.
