Bodio Bolts To Opening Night Victory

The 2017 Fall Season kicked off Monday night as the new Open Wheel Series hit the track at Eldora for a 40-lap feature event with the 360 Non-Wing Sprint cars.

Race Winner – Dave Bodio charged from the 14th spot on lap 18, to throwing a slider on Kenneth Drake for the lead with to laps to go, and Bodio would score the opening night victory for his 6th career SARA win.

Race Summary – Dante Curtis started up front after the Pole Dash and led the opening 12 laps of the race, before Bodio would take over, but the two would tangle, handing the lead over to Kenneth Drake. Drake used the low line to work his way up from 15th to the lead, and looked to be on his way to victory until the late laps when Bodio made his charge to battle for the lead. Bodio’s slider with two to go put him into the top spot and he would hold on to take the victory.

Heat Winners – Austin Jones quickly took the lead in Heat Win 1 and pulled away for the win, while Dave Bodio moved up from 4th to win Heat Race 2.

Hard Charger – Kenneth Drake dropped out of his Heat Race, forcing him to start 15th on the grid for the feature, and charged up to finish 2nd, gaining 13 spots.

Title Fight – Two of the strongest drivers from last season’s Sprint Series start off the season at the front of the field, and Dave Bodio leads Kenneth Drake by just two points.

Up Next – Next week the Open Wheel Series will switch over to the UMP Modifieds for Week 2 with a 50-lap feature at Eldora.
