Sim Marketing Solutions Super Series – Super Late Models – Race 3 – May 31, 2018 – New Smyrna Speedway
Round 3 of the Super Series saw the league’s top Super Late Model drivers head to the New Smyrna Speedway last Thursday night for the Can-Am Racing Series 150.
Race Summary – Jimmy Mullis charged to the top spot on the second lap of the race, with his teammate Zack Novak following him through. The two would control most of the race, with Novak taking over the lead on lap 57 and the two would try to pull away from the rest of the field with Jim Caudill Jr. in the mix as well. Some late cautions led to some intense restarts including a 1-lap shootout to the finish, but Novak was able to hold off his teammate and would go on to score his first career SARA victory.
Race Winner – Zack Novak – Qualified 5th, started 5rd (invert), 94 laps led
Top Five – 2nd David Krikorian, 3rd Jimmy Mullis, 4th Jim Caudill Jr., 5th Joe Schaffer Jr.
Hard Charger – Adam Benefiel (+16 positions gained, 22nd to 6th)
Top Rookie – Seth DeMerchant (14th)
Pole Winner – Tim Bills (16.712 seconds)
Points Battle – Another top five for Joe Schaffer Jr. keeps him atop the standings, but just 9 points over Novak.
HidesPride Head2Head Throwdown – Row 5 on the grid was selected at random for drivers to compete head-to-head, with Tim Bills (11th) finishing ahead of Matt Rolfe (12th) to win the Throwdown.
Up Next – The Super Series will be on track tonight at Phoenix for the Race1.us Qualifying Night in preparation for next week’s Copper World Summer Classic.
