On Thursday night, The Button Box Shop Super Series took on the South Boston Speedway in a day race for the first time since April of 2014. Tim Bills bested the 42 cars that attempted to qualify, to pick up the Dean’s Satellite & Security Pole Award with a lap of 14.717 seconds.
Ty Spearman made his first start of the season and benefitted from a 9-car invert which put him at the front of the field for the green flag. Spearman led the opening 61 laps of the race before the handling went away and Matt Kocher made his move on the inside to take over the lead. But just a couple laps later, Tim Bills would make the same move to take over out front.
On the lap 86 restart, Bills continued to lead but Kocher was able to hang tough on the outside, and Kocher was able to carry the momentum to get back on the lead on lap 88. From there Kocher would hold off Daniel Pope and Bills, and would go on to pick up his first career SARA victory.
Derek Robinson added another top ten finish, but his points lead drops down to just 1 point over Richie Davidowitz heading into next week’s race at Stafford.
