Last Thursday night, The Button Box Shop Super Series visited the Myrtle Beach Speedway for the first time in the Area 52 Designs 152. A total of 40 cars would attempt to make the 30-car field for the green flag.
Race Winner – At the drop of the green, Tyler Hudson used momentum on the high side to take the early lead from Darrell Hamlin. Hudson would lead until lap 94 when he would head down pit road for his set of tires, handing the lead over to Adam Benefiel. Joe Schaffer Jr. and Matt Rolfe also led laps as the field cycled through pit stops on cautions, but it was Hudson that made his way back up through the field to retake the lead on lap 123. Hudson would hold off the field for the final 30 laps, and would pick up his first Super Series victory, and his 3rd career SARA win.
Pole Award – Joe Schaffer Jr. picked up his first pole of the season, setting the first track record at Myrtle Beach with a lap of 18.266 seconds.
Hard Charger – Scott Dunlap started deep in the field in 29th, and would end up in the top ten by the end of the night after never taking his set of tires before finishing 8th, gaining 21 spots.
Rookie of the Race – Tyler Hudson picked the right tire strategy to get out front after things cycled through to pick up the victory as the top Rookie.
Title Fight – Christian Challiner’s 4th place finish would end up being a drop race for him, but he still maintains the points lead which shrinks down to just 5 points over Adam Benefiel.
Up Next – The Super Series will head to the new version of Phoenix for the first time in a 100-lap feature in the TUNDRA Super Late Models 100, with less than a handful of races remaining on the schedule.
