Last Tuesday the Callaway Investments & Midwest Powersource Sportsman Series made the trip out to Las Vegas for a double header at The Bullring with the Late Model Sportsman division.
Race 1 Winner – Trevor Edwards pounced on a late restart with less than 10 laps to go, and picked up his 12th career SARA victory.
Race 1 Summary – Kyle Souza benefitted from the Pole Handicap to start on the pole and led the field to the green flag and held a solid lead for much of the race. Souza held off a handful of charges from Joe Schaffer Jr. who spent much of the race in 2nd, but it wasn’t until a late restart that allowed Trevor Edwards to join the fight. A small slip from Souza with 8 laps to go allowed Edwards to gain position on the inside, and Edwards went on to pick up the victory.
Race 2 Winner – Ty Spearman took the lead early in the first half of the race, and easily held on for his 24th career SARA win.
Race 2 Summary – A 7-car invert for Race 2 put Tim Bills at the front of the field and he would lead the opening 16 laps before it looked like the handling quickly went away as he dropped through the field. Ty Spearman was the first to make it to him and took over the lead on lap 17 and never looked back. One last restart gave the field a chance to have a shot, but Spearman would maintain a couple car length lead and picked up his first win of the season.
LM Title Fight – With two solid finishes including a win, Trevor Edwards takes over the Late Model Sportsman points lead by 11 points over Ty Spearman.
Combined Title Fight – Despite a rough Race 2, Tim Bills still maintains his combined points lead but it shrinks down to just 12 points over Joe Schaffer Jr.
Up Next – Next week the Sportsman Street Stocks will take over for their own double features at Southern National
