Another new season at SARA began on Monday night, as the Open Wheel Series kicked off the 2018 Spring Season with a 35-lap Dirt Midget feature at the Volusia Motorsports Park.

Race Winner – For the second straight season, Dave Bodio started off the season with the opening night victory, taking the lead on lap 6 and leading the final 30 laps to pick up his 7th career SARA victory.

Race Summary – After three Heat Races and the random Pole Shuffle, Derek Robinson started on the pole for the 35-lap feature event, but it was Clay Snider that took the lead from the outside on the opening lap of the race. Snider led the first 5 laps, before Dave Bodio worked his way by on the bottom to take over by lap 6. For the remaining 30 laps, in between a couple of cautions, Bodio held off Robinson for much of the run until Robinson slipped up with a handful of laps to go. This let Dillon Raffurty move up to have a shot at the lead, but a caution with two to go forced the race to end under yellow, securing the victory for Bodio.

Heat Winners – Davey Scovel quickly moved up from 2nd to win Heat Race 1, Derek Robinson won Heat Race 2 from the pole, and Dillon Raffurty won Heat Race 3 after starting in the 3rd position.

Hard Charger – Jarrid Boiros and Darrell Hamlin both started deep in the field from 19th and 20th, respectively, and both gained 8 spots on the night.

Title Fight – An early season win for Bodio puts him at the top of the standings and leads by 5 points.

Up Next – Next week the Open Wheel Series head to Eldora for a 30-lap feature for Race 2.
