The NEO Racing News Legends League finished off their season tonight with a double header event to crown their champion. The series would first head to the Daytona Short road course for 15 laps, and then they made the trip to Oxford for a 50 lap event. Matt Rolfe would enter the night in the points lead, just 12 points over Ronald Williams.

At the Daytona Short course, Travis Warling would grab the fast time in qualifying, leading the field to the green flag under the lights. He would jump out the the early lead and began to pull away. Second place started, Clay Snider, would have trouble early as he clipped the wall on lap two. This would allow Rolfe to move up into the second position.

Behind him Williams would settle into third, until Joshua Kotten would slip by on lap 8. But Williams didn’t give up and gained the spot back on lap 12.

Back up front though, it would be Warling that would dominate the race, as he would pick up his 3rd win of the season. Rolfe would finish 2nd, Williams would finish 3rd, with Kotten and Charles Denny Rounding out the top 5.

With Rolfe’s 2nd place finish, he would extend his points lead up to 15 points heading into the final race of the season.

Entering the second race at Oxford, Williams would do every thing he could to make a run at the championship. He would grab the pole spot, while Rolfe started 4th.

There was plenty of action in the early laps, as Williams would jump out the early lead. But Parker Traves would make a race out of it, as the two drivers would swap the lead 4 different times before lap 20.

Warling and Max Handley would also battle it out in the top 5, but it would be Rolfe that would slowly work his way up to 2nd before the first and only caution of the night on lap 29.

After the restart, Williams would jump back into the lead, while Traves would run all over the back bumper of the leader for the remaining laps, but he couldn’t get the run he needed to get by.

Williams would go onto win the race, leading 48 laps en route to his 3rd win of the season. Traves and Rolfe would hang onto the podium spots, with Warling and Kotten finishing out the top 5.

With Rolfe’s 3rd place finish, he would hang onto the points lead by just 9 points, earning him the 2014 Season 1 – NEO Racing News Legends League Championship, his second career championship, both coming during the current season.

Rolfe’s championship run consisted of 4 poles, 4 wins, 11 top 5’s, 11 top 10’s, and 64 laps led.
