On Tuesday night, SoBo Championship Week continued on as the Sportsman Street Stock Series looked to wrap up their season with a 100-lap event.

Entering the night, Casey Kelley led the points standings by 25 points over Joe Schaffer, and all Kelley would need to do was finish 11th or better and the title was his.

Kelley started the night off much like he had all season long by picking up his 9th pole and led the field to the green flag. In the opening laps of the race, the field began to settle in and it became clear that a long run was in store, and that long run turned into a caution free race that went 100 laps without a hitch. Kelley’s lead quickly grew to over a second on lap 5, and it continued to grow from there. As the race stayed green, it allowed Kelley to stretch his lead out to over six seconds by the end of the race as he went on to pick up the dominating victory, and put an exclamation point on his season.

Behind Kelley, Tim Bills made his way up into 2nd just prior to halfway and remained there for the rest of the race to finish in the runner-up position. Schaffer started back in the 8th spot and did everything he could to put the pressure on Kelley to finish well as Schaffer worked his way up into a 3rd place finish. Matt Rolfe ended up with a 4th place finish as he followed Schaffer into the top five, with Todd Sipe rounding out the top five after running right around the 5th spot all race long.

Just outside the top five, Ryan Borges picked up a 6th place finish, after running inside the top five for the first half of the race before getting shuffled back. Mickey Kudlicki started deep in the field after missing qualifying, and charged up to a 7th place finish. Scott Dunlap fell back in the pack early on in the event but worked his way back up to the 8th spot. Newcomer Thomas Wetmore put in a solid run and ended up with a 9th place finish, with Ian Layne rounding out the top ten.

With the victory, Casey Kelley was able to seal his championship winning season and came out on top by 31 points in the standings. The title was Kelley’s first career SARA championship.

Congrats to Casey Kelley, the 2015 Summer Season Sportsman Street Stock Series Champion.
