McKinney Finally Prevails For Volusia Nationals Victory

Last Wednesday night, the Dirt Late Model Series returned to Volusia Speedway Park for a 75-lap feature event.

Race Winner – For the third straight week, Travis McKinney qualified into the Pole Shuffle and earned the lucky #1 starting position. After two weeks of some tough luck, McKinney would finally take full advantage of starting on the pole, but it didn’t come easy though as he would have to hold off charges from Ty Spearman, including when the two had to navigate lapped traffic and made contact. McKinney held onto the lead however, and would lead all 75 laps in his first career SARA victory.

Heat Winners – Kenneth Drake made a last lap pass to win Heat Race 1, while McKinney led every lap for his Heat Race 2 win.

Hard Charger – Greg Netherwood was a late entry to the event, just making it in time for Heat Races, and was able to charge forward during the race from 11th to 5th for a gain of 6 spots.

Title Fight – Ty Spearman came up just short in being a repeat winner at Volusia, but his 2nd place finish keeps him solidly in the points lead by 35 points heading into the first Mudsummer Meltdown Qualifier event this Wednesday night.
