Davis Chassis Works Contender Series – Super Late Models – Round 11 – May 1, 2019 – Irwindale Speedway Outer

The Spring Season came to a close as 41 cars took on Irwindale for the final race, and were split up into a pair of 150 lap features.

Race 1 Summary – James Mihlbachler scored the overall pole for the night, and led the field to the green flag for Race 1. He was able to hold that lead through a trio of early cautions, before the race’s final restart on lap 37 would see the race go green to the finish. Mihlbachler jumped back out in front, with points leader Riley Stenjem keeping pace with him for a while, but eventually that lead would grow out over a second or two. A couple of drivers swapped the 2nd position throughout the run, but no one was able to post a charge for the lead as Mihlbachler would go on to lead every lap for his 3rd victory of the season.

Race 2 Summary – Race 2 saw Keith Medeiros lead the field to the green, as he too jumped out to a solid lead for a majority of the race as others battled behind him throughout the top five. It wasn’t until later in the race that it looked like others might be chasing down Medeiros, and they would have a shot on the lap 134 restart. However that restart led to a couple of post-race calls from officials, as Medeiros was found to jump the restart, while 2nd place runner Drew Kreibich would also be moved back positions in review. This left the eventual battle for the lead to be between Stephen Morsillo and Davey Riendeau who were 3rd and 4th at the time. Morsillo was able to get around the outside of Riendeau after the restart, which ended up being the winning move as he would score his first career SARA victory.

Hard Chargers – Stan Bragg Jr. (Race 1, +11 pos.), Stephen Morsillo (Race 2, +18 pos.)

Pole Winner – James Mihlbachler (16.238 seconds)

Points Battle – Entering the night, Riley Stenjem had all but clinched the title but needed to just have a clean race to officially lock it up. He would do just that, having a solid 3rd place finish on the night, ending his season with a strong run. Stenjem was crowned the 2019 Spring Season Davis Chassis Works champion, with 10 starts, 4 wins, and 8 top fives for his 1st career SARA championship!
