Davis Chassis Works Contender Series – Super Late Models – Round 1 – May 16, 2018 – USA International Speedway
The all-new Contender Series debuted on Wednesday night, and 61 drivers brought their Super Late Models out to battle at USA. The field would be split into three separate races, each running their own 125-lap feature events.
Race 1 Summary – The lead was not the place to be for the first two-thirds of Race 1 as a few incidents up front led to six lead changes before lap 80. Adam Josselyn would finally settle in up front as the leader, but Ryan Doucette charged back up to the front and took the lead with 25 to go and went on to pick up his first SARA victory. Josselyn, Donald Clark, Alan Pajari, and Ken Morin Jr. rounded out the top five.
Race 2 Summary – Dante Curtis led Race 2 to the green and led the opening 28 laps of the race before Dallas Pataska worked his way by into the lead. From there, it was all Pataska out front as he pulled away by over three seconds during one of the longer runs in the event. Pataska would hold off the field on final green-white-checkered restart to pick up his first SARA win. Evan Sorensen, Ryan Kuhn, Jason Miller, and Gareth Gonder rounded out the top five.
Race 3 Summary – After taking the lead on the opening lap of Race 3, Daniel Williamson looked like he was well on his way to dominating the event until a caution on lap 86 bunched the field up behind him. After the restart AJ Rogers took full advantage and worked his way under Williamson for the lead, and Rogers would go on to also pick up his first SARA win. Drew Kreibich, Williamson, Derek Robinson, and Russell Charneski rounded out the top five.
Hard Chargers – Alan Pajari (Race 1, +12, 16th to 4th), Jason Benoit (Race 2, +11, 17th to 6th), Mark Humble (Race 3, +8, 19th to 11th).
Pole Winner – Johnny Dressler (19.502 seconds)
Up Next – Next Wednesday night the Contender Series will take on the Stafford Motor Speedway for 150 laps.
